Has anyone here gone?
SST is held every February, pre-1967 (many from the 1950's) Type 2's make a pilgramage up the mountain, hard core and they do amazingly well for a bunch of 50+ year old buses. It's all about the camaraderie, the trek, the adventure.
Part One -
Part Two - The snow. LOL at 0.52, that's Brian, founder of the trip, great guy. Christiane, Ray and I camped with him and some others in the video when we drove to Busfest.

I've not been cuz I don't have a bus (which really sucks for me). But-I don't know that I'd take my prized bus (if I had one) to the Shasta trip anyway cuz it seems like at least one bus every year ends up on it's side. It's sad to me. I realize that all of these Volkswagens are meant to be driven but I don't understand putting them in positions to possibly be destroyed.
I REALLY hope you're not considering taking Velvet.

I was wishing Velvet was an 11 window or panel beater that I could take! Boy, that's a switch.

Buy the 68 that RuddzRodz has for sale in the classifieds. You can probably work a good deal with him!!
On the topic of Shasta. I have a 64 bus but there is no way in you know what I would take it on that kind of a drive. I know how hard it is to get a bus that year, or any year for that matter, in the condition mine is in. It's not in perfect condition, in fact I hall my horses in it, but it is probably worth anywhere between 3000 to 5000 bucks. I was offered 5000 worth of pot for it once! LOL I almost traded, NOT. LOL So even in the condition mine is in, I wouldn't take it four wheelin. Now nice dirt roads are ok, but they have to stay fairly rut or hole free.
