My ex-wife had a B5.5 wagon with a V6 for about 10 years and it was a great car. She just recently sold it to buy a 2012 Passat sedan. I drove it quite a lot when we were married and it was a very solid and reliable car. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Head over to www.passatworld.com and check it out. I have had a Passat since 2003 and love it. LOTS OF MAINTENANCE though. You really need to consider what you are looking for and why. Both the V6 and 1.8T need timing belts, water pumps, thermostats and miscellaneous seals/gaskets every 80k miles. The suspension is also a major thing considering there are several control arms and ball joints/bushings.
