Newbie.....

Hey everyone! I just found the link to this site on Craigslist. Sounds pretty cool so I decided to join. I have a 68 bug that I'm trying to get road worthy asap to join in on events and to drive to save gas. My truck is killing me driving back and forth to Sac everyday. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Thanks everyone for the welcoming. I'll for sure be at Bugorama this weekend. My brother and I have attended the event for years now. Have to keep the tradition going! I need to update my profile with location but since some asked I actually live in Stockton.

Is there a facebook page or anything going yet? Great way to get others to join and another place to post pics of everyone's vw's.

Yeah, there is one for the State Route side.. but will make that a joint venture with SacTown as well.

Here's a great, no, absolutely necessary, place to start.
"How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive (Click here)" by John Muir. Scroll down the page to the spiral bound editions. They are easier to use 'cause they lay flat opened.
Used copies around $12.

Volkswagens have quirky differences from other cars, like valve and brake adjustments that need to be done, or at least checked, every 3000 miles.
Yup.

Scary as that sounds, it's pretty easy to do (valves in 10 minutes once you know how). This group will teach you, but for the maybe $15 a used copy of the book costs, it will save you HUNDREDS in maintenance. It's written in a conversational style, and well diagrammed.
Even those of us seasoned still refer to it.

It's the bar-none BEST investment you can make in your Bug. It's actually fun just to sit down and thumb through.
