The carpet is in, Yes there are some wrinkles, but again, I'm going with a "Well-Used" looking theme.

Here's the motor as it sat when i got it.

Today i decided I wanted to see it run this weekend. So I rebuilt the carburetor, it was surprisingly not clogged with any debris. I also put a 009 Distributor in. Tomorrow I'll be buying some parts.

I got it to turn over, and pop a few times, but it didn't start. I also found that the spark plugs are seized in the heads.

Well, with the wreck of my daily driver 74 Super Beetle, this car will be my new daily driver, and will be getting some items from the 74.

Good front fender, hood, and bumpers from another 70 I once was working on. I also put the chrome wheels which used to be on the Drag Bug on this one. My Drag Bug got the Rivieras off the Super.

The 74 was still able to be driven into the garage.

Here's the motor and transmission out of the 74.

Still needs more work. I hope to have it running today.

Its running.

This morning I attached the shift rod to the shaft on the transmission, and oh no, I couldn't get it to move. So out came the transmission. The shaft was bent. My only though was I bumped it on something while doing the install. Remember 70 has a different nosecone than 74, so I had swapped that out yesterday. But the shaft is the same, so I swapped them out, and wth? the shaft went into the 74 nosecone with no issues. Maybe its different. I dont know.

Got the transmission in, axles bolted up, etc.

Replaced the clutch cable. Got the pedals all lubed up and working good and everything.

Blew out the gas tank and fuel lines, and reinstalled the tank along with new lines.

Replaced the 74's alternator with a generator I had lying around (hopefully it works), simply because I didnt want to have to do any wiring for the alternator.

Replaced the heater boxes with J tubes. (I never use heat anyway.)

Got the motor installed. It went too easily.

adjusting the clutch cable. Way too much slack. Somehow it got unhooked from the pedal. (probably during install), so I had to pull the pedals out again and redo it.

Went to adjusting the throttle cable. Its bound up somewhere. Oops I forgot to run the tube through the rear tin. Embarassed Couldn't get my hand to the hose clamp at the back of the shroud. Pulled the motor back out. Just enough to get my hand in there. Got that all worked out.

I had pulled the motor straight out, but for some reason I couldn't get it to go back in. Question Long struggle ensued, but it went back in. Finished up the install.

Started it up. Wasn't running good. This doesn't make sense, this motor was running yesterday. Oh, one of the spark plug wires had come loose. Whew.

Tried to drive it. Clutch wouldnt disengage. ??? With the motor off, I heard it. The tube the clutch cable runs through in the tunnel is loose. The tab apparantly is broken. Something to fix tomorrow.

I got the clutch cable tube squared away today. Instead of cutting a big hole and welding the whole mess back together, I took a friend's idea, and drilled a hole on either side of the tunnel, pried that tube down as far as I could, and was able to jamb a 3/8th inch bolt through the entire tunnel and added a nut to the other side. And it works good. That tube was probably up about 3/4s of an inch higher than it's supposed to be. Now its nice and low. and will hopefully stay that way. The holes are drilled roughtly 1 inch up from the floor, and about an inch behind the back of the e brake handle.

Ok, got it registered on Tuesday, also worked out some wiring and got all the lights working. Got it insured on Wednesday. Wednesday night I attempted bleeding the brakes. One bleeder valve snapped off, one was stripped and the left front rubber brake line was too short, and with the wheels turned to the right, the brake line was stretched to the max. I was able to get a new brake line and 2 new wheels cylinders at O'Reilly. Today I installed it all, but didn't have someone to pump the brakes while I bled them, and didn't want to do it the old one-man way.

Replaced all the brake parts. It seems to be pretty good now.

I will be driving it to work tomorrow, so hopefully it all works out.

Included in the brake replacement was:

-new master cylinder
-new brake line, (down the side of the tunnel).
-new left front rubber brake hose
-all new wheel cylinders
-all new brake shoes
-new front brake drums

bled it all out and everything seemingly works fine.

After driving it successfully on Monday, I readjusted the brakes, and I've been driving it since.

Today I got the emergency flashers working, and got the windshield wipers working. The arms were stuck in place. Got it all worked out and lubed up.

Took it to the track to see how it would run.

1. It's slow, 20.60 was my best.
2. Clutch was slipping
3. I made it to the final round.
4. I had fun.
5. I took some videos, which I will post up tomorrow probably.

It needs a tune-up, and it will run better and faster. (I went through this before with the old Super Beetle [same motor]).

Ordered all new front end parts, spindles, ball joints, tie rods, steering dampner, wheel bearings, still need to get shocks, but I'm making steps. And yes, I went with drop spindles.

Now that the car is parked until I get the front end rebuilt, I figured I might as well do a little bodywork. Started out by shaving the turn signals off the fenders. And then just some body work to the front quarters, fenders and apron.

I found definitive evidence that the front end was replaced at some point, about 2 feet back from the apron theres a welded seam all the way around. The right front quarter panel had been straightened with a dent puller at some point. But all the previous work was done right, so there really were no problems caused by another's work, which is usually the case.

I should be able to finish up tomorrow.
