| '67 and '68 were both swing axle years. They are called "long axles" because their axles are actually longer than the '66 and earlier cars. VW was trying to improve handling and stability by widening the footprint. When that wasn't quite the improvement they were looking for, they switched to IRS in '69. The other difference with the '67 and '68 transmissions is that the bellhousing is larger internally to make room for the larger 12-volt flywheel. '66 was the last year for the shorter axles and the 6-volt systems. '69 was the first year for IRS.
So yes, a '67 Beetle transmission is the same as a '68. | |

| It will "fit" but like Mateo said, not directly. It's not the correct trans for the car but you could get it under there. A better question would be "why?" | |
