NorCal VDubs 2nd Annual Dubs Around the Lake - JUNE 24th 2012

OK, after much consultation it's official.

We will meet up at the Kmart parking lot in Grass Valley off of McKnight Way at 8:30am.
Then we will take scenic HWY 20 up to I80. Travel north on I80 for a very short period to Cisco Grove. Turn left under the freeway and follow it along. This is the old HWY 40. Lot's of history along the sides of this road and we can drive it nice and easy to Soda Springs. At Soda Springs there is a couple of good size gas stations and a great place for the first stop. Then we will continue down Donner Pass Rd. A pretty drive up the hill and back down to Donner Lake. We will then travel along the north side of the lake till we get to HWY 89 and head south. This will take us to to Tahoe City! South on 89 and around the lake.
Pack a lunch, we will be stopping at Pope Beach. Lot's of sand and wind break as well as grills and bathrooms. This will be our lunch spot and plan to hang out a few hours before heading on. One last stop for ice cream at North Shore and then head back down the hill. Or make a weekend out of it and enjoy all that Lake Tahoe offers. Others head over the hill and try their luck in Reno. Regardless...an amazing day. Don't miss it...come join us.

For those who were there last year you might remember Richard. He was the guy that drove from LA to be there. I called him and he said he was going to try to make it this year.

I'm really looking forward to this trip. It was a great day last year....Here are a few shots....











This cruise is on all back roads mostly. You'll get to see Lake Tahoe and the basin like you've never seen it before. Pack a lunch...we stop and picnic beachside and hang out for an hour or so, then another stop for ice cream around North Shore. Its an all day cruise but last year I was home before dark.

ive had my bug for more than 3 years ive never drove it for more than 40 miles... im a little scared

Don't plan on using the gas station in Soda Springs. It closed a few weeks ago. I believe the gas station at the Cisco Grove exit is still open.

If you get gas in Grass Valley in the morning you should be fine for the entire drive. There are also plenty of gas stations in Truckee and South Lake Tahoe. Gas is much cheaper in Grass Valley though.

Just got back from a few days in Tahoe. There's a bit of road work going on it seems on just about all the roads leading in to the lake but nothing too serious...just minor delays.

I just checked the 10-day forecast....72 degrees for our cruise day!!!

Darn it.....I really wanted to do this, but I have a stuck throttle.....

Sorry, guys. After a lot of consideration, I think that's a lot of driving for me to do and then to get back to San Francisco to get to work on Monday. Fuel, bridge tolls and 18 hours of driving adds up.
Additionally, one of the two shows I attend is that day and my club per-registerd me including tee shirt, which was sweet of them.

This would have been a perfect time to introduce my new picnic and camping equipment collection, all for the 1960s.

Have fun in Antioch, say high to the rest of the crew that are going that way...
