Actually was a handshake deal between Porcshe and VW.. Yes.. VW did most of the work. Was supposed to be sold as a VW with the 4cyl engines to replace the Karmann Ghia and sold as a Porcshe with the 6cyl. Then the guy that did the handshake deal died and everyone denied the deal.. so Porcshe took over the whole thing.. buying its parts from VW.
Also a fact, that the original badge had Volkswagen on one side of the back and Porcshe on the other side.. but the Porcshe dealerships of USA decided to make them all Porcshe. So when you see a 914 from out of country, it should have both badges on the back.
My opinion.. this guy is asking upper end for it.. it is clean and worth the money, but I have seen some pretty nice ones sell around 3000.00.. especially in the bay area.
