- Before you go making a color decision, I think I have a brand new set of brick red and white door panels that would fit. Might be better than "cheapest available" basic black that's been done to death.
Then you could go with red seat covers and the interior would really been a cut above. I paid $40 for the door panels. It's a complete set of four.
Remember, look on The Samba for stuff, too. I got all of my interior in Herbie previously-owned-but-new-in-the-box. I'm going back to the original black. I'm not going the cheap route. I only buy parts from Wolfsburg West if they have what I'm looking for. The only thing I'm going sorta cheap on is the carpet and that's only because it will eventually have to come up again anyway when I address the few small rust holes I have.

- Man Greg.. for a "daily driver" Crusty is getting the treatment. Looks to be in pretty good shape over all for the money.
I would have got her road worthy and drove it as is... you have more patience than I my friend It may seem a little "over the top" for a daily driver. But things like that broken seat need to be addressed. The seat covers were obvisouly fooked and...get this..........You should've seen all of the rat poo poo that came out of those seats!! It was bad enough I ran for my surgeon's mask! Imagine me driving this rat poo poo invested turd down the road with the windows rolled down and my kids in the back seat....breathing that stuff! I'm really glad I discovered this. I want to go through everything and make sure it's clean and operating the way it should. It will still have a crusty look (except for the interior/wheels/tires) but everything will function as it should, like when it was new. I want all of the lights to work, windows to roll up and down like they did when they were new, etc, etc.

| That'll be nice. Even if the wheels and hubcaps will clean up, it'll be a real stunner in it's unmolested but well kept finished condition. Patinaed with custom wheels=done to death.
We'll call her Aging Grace.
As for everything working, no reason it shouldn't. One thing that seems to be accepted in VW circles is a non working dome light. It's the simplest circuit on the car, and the easiest to restore function to, and I see them out of order more often than not. If the bulb is good, the wiring and (still springy) door switches are there, any dome light can be brought back to life in 10 minutes. Getting the manual switch on the fixture itself is also about a 5 minute fix.
Anyone: Ask me at tech day to take a look. I think I even have a spare dome light fixture.

| I picked up a roof rack yesterday at Bugorama and I couldn't keep myself from installing it and throwing an empty cooler on it just for kicks. I love it! Then Gavin wanted to come "help" so I gave him a rag and some wax and he went to work waxing on a fender that I hadn't had a chance to get to yet. | |

| Lastly, I've had this old set of plates since I was a kid. I don't remember where I found them but I held onto them even though I lived in Oregon at the time. I was just going to put them up on the wall or something. Well, low and behold, years later I moved to California and have a car that could use them! So I cleaned these up and waxed them and they look pretty darn good. They fit the car perfectly because they're not overly nice or beat to hell either. What do ya think? | |
