| The low down or the slow down on this weeks progress or deja vu
We are back to a 1600 with an alternator, single carb. 30 MPG beast Raised the front again Running boards, louvered on the passenger side will do the driver side soon Rear deck lid stand offs No more hot starts. Carpet kit in and carpet kit out, messes with the gas pedal think of it as cruise control with out the control. Turn signals turn off when the switch in in the middle. I think I am going to change back to a braided throttle cable much smoother.
I love a big motor but they are like having a girl friend who never shuts up. Sooner or later your wife is going to find out. I get in the car hit the key and off we go. It may not be the fastest car on the road but with the top back who cares.
Now if I can only get my son to return it to his father so I can drive it.

| That's why my '70 bug is my favorite. It's mostly stock, the way it was intended. It really doesn't have any "bad habits". |

| Hmmm....
I kind of like bad habits.
That way you can have an intervention!

| Oh, just another lowered Bug everyone glances at and walks past. Bor-ing.
Good for you. That's a great choice. I've been driving my 1600 DP Bug back and forth to Grass Valley from San Francisco for years without anything but regular maintenance and a clutch cable tube repair.
Nothing gets me more than hanging out with people who have to lift the hood and tinker with something every time you go somewhere. That's not a car, that's an annoyance. The 1600 is the Wolfsburg labcoat evolution of that engine. It's perfectly dependable and just fine on grades and hills if tuned properly. Plus great mileage. Electronic points are the only improvement they really benefit from.

| I think it is time to rotate a headlight and change the throttle cable and maybe try a different door handle with a key. A year plus and we cannot lock the door. It does pay to live in a low crime rate hole. | |

| I don't lock my doors. Just put a Club on it. Door locks won't stop thieves. They just bust the windows these days. Rather have them open the door to find nothing inside than break the window to find nothing inside.
Key point: Don't leave anything inside. Most young people are too ignorant of the Bug's layout to look under the back seat or figure out the hood.
