Maybe I could bring the Syncro and see if you can turn the tailpipe so it points backwards and not downwards? Not sure when you installed it just needed to turn the whole muffler 90 degrees so the tailpipe points backwards like it supposed to stock or just the tailpipe but prefer it go backwards in case I take her over som nice rocks in 2012. So maybe I can bring the Syncro if that is do-able. If not, not problem. I had been meaning to bring it back since the whole new cat smog work but been too busy with work. This time of year is nuts for me. tj

The new ones you just installed will not work again? I have maybe out on 100 miles since you did the work? At that time we put new ones on but if new ones are needed, I will have to hope PFI or Riebes has some. I think I purchased the last ones at Riebes this summer. tj

| Nice timing! I have my engine out to replace the front main seal. Maybe I'll toss it into my truck and bring it on in. It's been a very long time since I've done one, so another set of eyes would be nice tocheck on the clutch disk and such.
Is a long bar to support the flywheel to remove the gland nut available?

Is a long bar to support the flywheel to remove the gland nut available? Are you going to be there early? I have one of those torque dudes tools if Smogman does not have one. It helps remove gland nuts. I would just need to find it in my messy garage. If you are going to be there between 9 and 10, I can show up at that time and bring the tool. Since it is my bro in laws tool I can't loan it out but happy to allow it to be used while I am there. Or a big ass cheater bar does well there too. tj

| I have a flywheel lock if you need it. I am pretty close to Cliff's and could run it up. | |

| I'll get there early so we can use the torque tool. I have a flywheel lock, but I haven't used it yet. I have used a long bar in the past and it's nice to be able to lever against the ground instead of having to prevent the whole engine itself from rotating. | |

tj I HONESTLY DONT REMEMBER. I THINK WE DID THE PIPE TO CAT AND CAT TO MUFFLER GASKETS BUT I THINK THEY ONLY WENT ON THE WAY THEY ARE. I THINK WE WILL HAVE TO TURN THE TIP ON THE MUFFLER. IF YOU GRAB A GASKET OR TWO AND WE DONT USE THEM THEN YOU CAN ALWAYS TAKE THEM BACK.

Is a long bar to support the flywheel to remove the gland nut available? THE FLYWHEEL LOCK IS ONE OF THE FEW THINGS I DONT HAVE YET. I HONESTLY NEVER NEEDED ONE CUZ I USE AIR. THE AIR GUN POPS THOSE RIGHT OFF GETTING THE NEW ONE TIGHT IS ANOTHER STORY THO. I HAVE USUALLY JUST HIT IT GENTLY WITH THE AIR IN THE PAST. I DO HAVE TORQUE WRENCHES THO SO WE CAN USE THE FLYWHEEL LOCK.

I had to bring the old ones in last time as they had no way to cross the parts and had to compare to what they had. Will try and find my receipt that maybe shows what I purchased. Not sure I kept the receipt though. Doh! tj

| Was nice meeting some folks I had not met before. I understand they are the non forum folks. I guess Cliff's place is like a bar and VW people congregate naturally to the shop. Norm! Thanks cliff for shifting my muffler tip around. It is happier now. Too bad about Jeff's engine have end-play the size of a football field though. Run it until it blows. tj | |

Cliff rotated my Syncro tailpipe backwards instead of downwards so I don't rip it off going over stuff. I think Ciff helped someone do some welding right as I was leaving?? We also pow-wowed around a Type 3 engine discussing end play the size of the grand canyon. That was in the 2 hours I was there. tj
