| No engine or back seats, but looks very straight and complete otherwise. $14K. I've been looking and they're hard to find since the restored ones are gold mines, everyone's snatching up the shells.
What do you guys think? I can't lose, right? The old splitties are so collectible and getting more so as the years go by.
If I get her, I may need someone to go fetch her for me, near Seattle on a trailer.......

| I had to drive to Seattle to bring my 64 home. It was a quick trip up and back. It is still a blur.
As far as the price people are willing to pay big bucks and I don't see it going down anytime soon.....if ever | |

| Well, it's looking like a done deal. I have emailed and talked to the seller at length. He's taken if off the market with a pending flag for 7 days if I can get up there with a trailer and cash. Working on it. Where there's a will, there's a way. It's a 21 window walkthru Deluxe samba. I'll be probably putting Hugo's current motor and a bug box in the bus since Ray's got plans for a new bigger motor for Hugo soon. So, now the hunt is on... seats, rubber, front windows (safaris?), headliner, sunroof, interior panels, all sorts of small bits... BugORama's swap meet will have a whole new meaning. My goal is to get her road worthy and worry about the cosmetic stuff over time, as $$ allows. | |

| Congrats! hope it all works out for you. I have a hard time with the prices they are getting for these things today, but Jeff is right.. it's going to keep going up.
I come from the day and age that you picked up a perfectly good running bug for 500 bucks and drove it home. Buss's where a bit more at around 1500 or so. But, times are changing. "sigh"
Have fun with it! | |

| I bought Hugo for $900 in 1978. I had to get a car loan! I had $300, financed $600. Payments were $14.12 a month for 4 years. Seemed like a fortune and a lifetime. Whenever I fuel up, I get people that come over and tell me their "one that got away" story. Everyone has a VW story. I was lucky that I just never let mine go and still have it and in great shape. I always loved the busses. But, I never had the need for another vehicle. Sure wish I'd bought one back when they were cheap. Now I sound like all those people at the gas station.... When that Samba sold for $198K a couple weeks ago I knew that if I don't move now, I'll never be able to get into one. Here's the video of the bidding. Yeah, made me cry. Like watching racehorses come down the stretch. Why is this so emotional? Geez, I'm such a chick. Check out the seller as he nears $200K. http://www.speedtv.com//video/barrett-jackson/bj-63-volkswagen-bus-1023778798001/1#_vtopI don't just want any bus, I always wanted the Samba (21 or 23 window ragtop). Besides, this bus may help me afford to retire in 20 years or so... How could anyone ever tire of this view? Imagine with the stars out? Kids will WANT to ride in the back seat... | |

| Looks to be pretty nice. I just can't get over what these things are worth. It's $14,000 and it needs everything! Either way, I can't say it's not worth it. I'd love to have one. Conratulations! | |

| Thanks Greg. I know, it's crazy. I've been watching these things climb up and up for several years now. The pre-67 kombi's and 11/15 windows are even high, although attainable. But I was at a loss to find any Samba's for a decent price other than this one. I haven't bought it yet! I challenge you guys to find me one this week for a better price? This one is $20K, basket case: http://www.oldbug.com/idy58.htmI doubt they'll get that, but now that Barrett-Jackson set the precedent, maybe they will... | |

| I love a challenge so I found this one http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/2408852900.htmlLost interest.....1967 21 window....This was a daily driver before I started the restoration. It has a 1600 engine. About 70% of the rust has been repaired there's still rust on the driver's door&doorjamb. Some rust on one of the oval windows. The bus has all the glass except the front glass. It's missing both bumpers the middle and back seats. It has new jack points, new rocker panels new out riggers. The interior needs redone. About 80hrs of bodywork left and it's ready for paint.I might be interested in trades....I like british project cars wooden sailboats, fishboats, tugs or cash..... | |

| http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/2474673986.html67 Split Window VW Bus - $8500 (Clairemont ) I've got a super dry '67 VW Bus. Last year of the split window. Pretty clean inside and out. Runs great. On it's way to being a beautiful classic. I intended on finishing the body work, doing a full custom camping interior, and a full custom paint job. I may still do that. At this time I am not hurting for cash. I will sell this if the price is right. I am also willing to entertain offers of trades. I would be interested in a nice old school, something bagged, possibly a bug plus cash, something newer and nice, something of less value plus some cash, or ???? What do you have? Send me an email with what you've got and we'll talk. Thanks a lot. | |

| Dave, you are the hounddog! Thanks for the hunting. That first one was the best, it's a samba. The others, although good deals if I was looking, but if I'm going to spend over $200, it's only going to be for what I really have always dreamed of and that's a samba 21 or 23 window ragtop. The first one I ruled out though. The guy sent me some more pics of the interior and it's completely gutted. That alone, I could work with considering it was a savings of $$, but I didn't like that he'd done so much work already. I've seen bad work. I would rather get an all OG vehicle and do it myself, rather than a cut up bus that someone else f'd up... Even if he did it in name of removing rust. My bug is all original, although modified, not cut up. That's my style. So, I sent my $$ to buy it. And I'm having it hauled down for me. The guy didn't charge much more than the pro car transports bid. And he's going to load it up with spare parts that he'll throw in, cosmetic and motor stuff. She arrives at Vallero's shop next Tuesday night..... I am so excited!! | |
