Ok, so I caved to peer pressure and decided to paint my front brake calipers as part of replacing the front beam.

Actually it was just Jeff at ice cream. I believe the conversation went something like this:

Jeff: Dude! you have to paint your calipers red!
Me: That would look really cool through the spokes.
Jeff: Yea, it would, you have to do it.

I am pretty sure he even said 'dude'.

Anyways, painting calipers sounds like a good idea but cleaning those buggers up is a lot of work. Not for the faint of heart or impatient.

Here is what I had to start with.

But when you are all done, they do look pretty cool.

So now it's on to mounting the Holley fuel pump and the Hurst line lock and do some plumbing.

I thought it was going to be pretty easy as there looks like there is a lot of room but then I remembered the gas tank has to back in there so I am going to have to think about the placement a little more.

I know, I didn't have the rotors drilled and slotted because I thought I was in a hurry.

LOL! Was that a misconception. Oh, well. Maybe on the next ones.

...and of course red calipers will stop the car better than regular ones.

Oh yea, it is a known fact that red calipers increase braking performance by 200%.

Actually I think they just add another 20MPH to the perceived top speed while sitting static.

I would do it again. I am fighting the urge currently to paint the top of my gas tank red and slow the whole process down another couple of days...

Personally I would'nt do drilled rotors. They seem to be prone to cracking. For example my good friends shifter cart has drilled rotors and they were cracked all over the place. Also if you want to get them turned I don't think many places would be willing to turn them.

Matt you need more RED

So are you for or against drilled rotors? You contradicted yourself.

It is my understanding that if you drill and/or slot your rotors you pretty much have set them up for one and done.

Just like they say, speed costs money, no matter if you're accelerating or decelerating.

UPDATE!

New hard brake lines installed with stainless ends - check.

Brake system bled and rock hard brake pedal for the first time since I have owned May - check.

Roll control installed, wired and tested - check.

Brake lights working after tracing wires for 2 hours because I did not listen to Dave and mark the wires - check.

New front end height set - check.

Rough alignment done so I can drive her to pick up the new rear tires tomorrow and have it aligned - NOT!!! (Insert annoying buzzer sound here)

WHY?!? Because I ordered a ball joint beam (think late) and was sent new narrowed tie rods with early ends that will not tighten up into the pitman arm!!!

A big thank you to Eric and Dave for saving my sanity and cluing me in on the difference.

I am pissed, frustrated, annoyed, etc...

I am going to go stomp around some more. (insert random profanity here)

I hope I can find some tomorrow in the neighborhood...

I can be over with a jack handle, baseball bat, and hammer to assist you if needed Matt. I hope it doesn't come to that.
