Robert Skinner is moving right along on "rustoration" work!

Floor patch finalized; shaped, trimmed, fit, welded, grinded, etched, and seam sealed. Its ready for paint!



Windshields are out to do the repairs on the worst rust up front.



Putting the donor piece into the triangular hole at the bottom of the center post.





Moving right along, hoping to have her ready for Niello Ranch Run, or the following weekend to go to BYOB/Red Barn!

I could really care less about highjackers on this forum, everyone makes me smile. Unlike samba!

Looking good you guys. Lots of hard work will pay of in the end.

"Rustoration" progress at www.skinnerclassics.com. Robert is using a combination of minimal welding and panel bond glue to preserve the original exterior paint and removing/stopping rust and strengthening the integrity of the worst areas in order to attach the headliner.

Close to being ready for the upholstery shop this week for headliner.

Floor is completely sealed (around all the pedals/shifter/brake) and painted.





Cargo floor patch done.







Over the windshields, all fixed up now.





Window frames complete and will hold glass/rubber now.





Getting her original paint buffed out.



She's got her Skinner Spa Day beautifying treatment! The 46 year old paint is gorgeous.



She's going to the upholstery shop tomorrow morning for headliner, sunroof, window rubber, and hoping for Red Barn on sched!

Buffing the OG paint to make her shine like she has not shined in over 30 years...





And I just scored my OG long panel in Silver Plat/Mesh Platinum from a samba friend in Ontario, Canada! It was the last one Velvet was missing, other than still needing a front kick panel. A giant thank you to "velvetgreen" from samba and also to Joe Patterson from Vintage Metal Werks in OH for fetching it over the border and shipping it Greyhound for me.

Color me sad.

Velvet will not be making Red Barn this weekend. The upholstery shop has had a delay in strengthening the headliner support tabs around the sunroof area, which were very rusted/rotten. They were there and bend when I removed the old headliner, but they are breaking off and not strong enough to hold the stretch needed for new headliner.

I am still headed to Red Barn THANKS to Robert Skinner and Ray Vallero for offering their personal vehicles (non-VW, but still!). I am humbled and touched and consider myself blessed to call these guys my friends.

Skinner doesn't have a bus he can loan you?

He's driving Rusty, the DC is for sale and pristine, and his Chocolate SST is probably not reliable enough for him to feel comfortable that I wouldn't be stranded somewhere... The other buses are projects or someone else's!

And, dangit, he didn't offer the Chevelle...
