Good time like always... thanks to everyone that showed up! Was actually really happy to see how many showed up for tech day! Very nice and very good to meet Jim.
Dinner was good and great conversations!
As the weather gets warmer, we will mix up the cruise ideas and destinations more.

I'll get it unloaded and cleaned up tomorrow, post some pics in the evening. It's in rough shape, but I've got a pink slip and DMV fees are only $82 to register

So i was on my way on an hour drive to hang out today and the unexpected happened....
I'm actually embarrassed to show these but hey it happens... I was doing about 60...
Fender messed up...
The axle nut shered the cotter pin, there fore the axle nut came off, along with the wheel and drum still attached. Founded the tire/drum about 200ft away, after i saw it pass me on the passenger side.
Shock mount dragged but nothing else damaged
So ill fix it and hope i can make it out next time, better double check everything before the swapmeet
NOTE: This is the wrong way to "Lay it out", i want to be able to lay the pan on the ground but this is the wrong way of going about it

How did that wheel get out of the wheel well and do such little damage. Were you turning, looks like the shock was a life saver. How fast were you going. After taking a second look it just is amazing.

I did a quick search on Berg 5 speed and we knew it was not a Porsche one. Nothing came up on the German one I thought I read about Plus it is a stock looking swing transmission. So I believe its a Berg. We should have a little look at the shifter.
It looks like it was a do it yourself kit. That man was amazing.

I agree, it could have been much worse and no one was hurt. fuchs are fine, just need a new cotter pin but bug is fine.
From the looks of it, the cotter pin failed and the nut backed out. I was doing about 60. Its funny how when things happen they feel like they take a really long time and u remember all these details as if they happen in slow motion. But if you were to take a video and watch it later, it really wasn't long at all.
Well i happen to have a video, you see i mounted a camera to the car to try it out and see if i could get some video of my drive, and later use for cruises and other events. Well i got this 'incident' on video, camera angle not great but you get the point. I look at it now and go "wow that was nothing." The wheel leaves the car at 2 min.

Wow the Really sucks!!!!
But.......
How f*#%in awesome was it to catch it on camera!!!!
After seeing that I so wish I had a camera on my car almost a year ago when my left front spindle snapped and my wheel, tire, and drum took off across the freeway just as I was entering it heading west from Penryn . Thats how I ended up with my $100 (pick and pull) disc brake setup off a (I think) 72 Ghia. Score!!
Hope you get it fixed back up soon and we see you at the swap this coming Sunday.
