| Kicked a rod out of my Chevy 355 in my Nova today at the track. I just put it in in January. Only made 17 passes. This sucks. | |

| This is what happens when you have more than one race car. | |

| I know. Plus it's a fresh rebuild. There were no telltale signs beforehand. | |

| The teardown... Chunks in oil pan. Couple chunks of rod cap, bearing material, and a chip off the old block. Piston hit the head, bent both valves. Piston. | |

| There's the rod. Needless to say, it's a little tweaked. Cracked the cylinder wall.

| All caused by this one rod bolt not being torqued to spec. | |

| It's amazing how so much damage can happen in so little time. | |

| Took the motor and all pieces to the machine shop today. I showed them to the #2 man there. At first he was like, "well, if there wasn't enough oil....", but I showed him the loose rod bolt, he just looked at it and sighed, then I told him about how I checked the others, and found a loose one. I could tell he knew someone screwed up on the assembly. So long story short, they're going to re-sleeve the cracked cylinder, replace the crank, rods, damaged pistons, oil pump, oil pan, and do a valve job on the head, and reassemble the block for me. | |
