| so I know of a 1970 bug for sale cheep. can be had for $650. clean tittle on non op. lowered with 8 spokes. has a 1776 with dual 40 kadrons. all I want is the motor maybe starter. i have not seen the car in person but have seen pics and it really looks pretty good. pics are on my phone otherwise I would post them. I will work on that later. anyways anyone interested in the bug minus the engine? I know I can buy the engine only just think this is to good of deal to pass on. I would like to go in $300 or $350. | |

| Hmmm. I'll be up either this or next weekend. Maybe I'll have to take a look up close. If i could find a cheap motor and Dann and I could throw a paint job on it. | |

| If you find a line on a cheap motor let me know.
I would buy that bug just for the motor. $650 for a running 1776 is a deal.
Spin the crank, listen and feel.
I am still looking for a miracle...

| i was told it ran good than had some sort of dist. problem. not sure what. has no dist. now but sounds like he has a few extra parts. I am in need of a motor myself since mine has a pretty severe knock in it. plus I am only running a 1300 and really want to be able to wheelie across intersections. I have been told a 1776 will do it in a buggy. | |

| The 8 spokes look pretty clean.
If someone picks it up, I'll buy the 8 spokes.
I would like to have a set with painted red centers.

| $650 for a bad 1776 is $650 poorly spent. If the distributor's been off for years, moisture and crud may have gotten in. The cylinder walls could be crusty.
If all it was was "a distributor problem" then why didn't they spend the $100 on a new or used one and fix it? if it's something inside that's goofed up and it has to come apart, you're not going to be that far ahead.

| I have to agree with Kyle on this one. Look at the screws, light rust. This thing has seen lots of weather. That rag looks kind of new...
I would not go over $150.00 for the engine. You are going to have to rebuild everything Carbs to valve springs.
But what do I know.

| Missing engine tin... always a bad thing on an air cooled engine. | |

| wheelie hopes are over for a little bit, but I did pick up a motor. case numbers say 1200 as did the seller but a couple things tell me it could be bigger, but that really dosent matter. gonna run it while I rebuild my 1300. new one should be in by next weekend. we'll see. | |

| Many 1200s were converted to the very pleasantly torquey 1385. I run one in Herbie and have no problem on grades or the steep hills of San Francisco.
You may like the 1385 (if that's what it is) in a buggy if it's in good condition. Plenty of power and torque. FIRST thing is go over all the "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" (John Muir. Amazon, used spiral copies about $10-$15). ADJUST THE VALVES, or have them done. It's the most neglected item on used engines, and should be done no matter when the owner said it was "tuned up."

| will definitly be adjusting valves, cleaning carb, new plugs and wires, setting timing and all that stuff. this motor has not been run in like 3 years but the previous owner said it ran great when he took it out to replace it with a 1600 dp. it has been stored in doors covered up and is very clean. I'm thinking someone recently rebuilt it. has no oil leaks, heads look like brand new, has a new 30 pict 3 carb on it and a super 1500 oil pump. who know what size cyl. it has, hopfully its a 1385. | |

| I LOVE my 1385. No race car, but fun low end.
I did lean it out another 1/8 of a turn over the weekend and it's even perkier.
