I'm bringing home a Squareback

Well, my property/car trade happened and I'm picking up a 69 Squareback next week. I'm so excited I can hardly think straight! The car is in Vacaville and Ray Vallero is going to help me get it back to Auburn. It would have happened this week, but he's working on Tony Klink's drag bug this week in preparation for Bug-O-Rama in a few weeks. The 69, along with another Square and a Notch, was purchased by the current owner at an estate sale in San Ramon a month or so ago. The 92 year old man drove them until they took his license away and then they sat for a year or two. It's a full automatic and is 100% complete - never painted, modified or otherwise defaced. He's dark green (Peru Green?) and has a really nice patina. The car turns over, but will not stay running so we're going to trailer him back. Apparently the person who bought the other Square had it running the day after it was purchased so with Ray's help it should be ready to go pretty quickly, maybe not in time for Bug-O but we'll play it by ear. Once again I owe Dawn Simas a big THANK YOU for getting me in touch with the right person (she was responsible for hooking me up with my 68).

Mateo: It is fuel injected. Wliot is cute, but I think I might have to go with something German - hey it's an automatic so how about "Otto"?

No I'm glad she did! It would have taken me ages to figure out. Besides, Dawn is responsible for hooking me up with Robert and the car. This is the second time she's helped me find an ac VW. Face it Dawn - you rock! Don't forget to decide where you want to have a celebratory dinner - my treat for finding Otto.

I just looked at events and it looks like a whole bunch of us will be camping at Bug-O. I shall smuggle in a bottle of champagne so we can all toast Otto, because you all are also partly responsible for returning me to the dark side - do I get a light saber?

You're right, they do. I think the front of buses at the right angle look like aliens. If you want a real laugh, look at the front of a recent Mazda. It's kind of evil.
