Greetings Earthlings,
Ray surprised me yesterday (Sunday morning) with a phone call and said he wanted to sort out the electrical on Otto. I tinkered and played gopher while Ray worked his magic. We worked most of the day with a few trips to the parts store for a relay and miscellaneous clean-up bits. We knocked off at 5:30 and I was thrilled to have lights, turn signals and no more birds nest under the dash. The only thing I don't have at this point is windshield wipers (don't know if it's the wiring or a seized motor, but it's a non-issue right now) and a working horn (there is a short in the wiring and Otto needs to go on a lift to find the problem). We celebrated by taking Otto on his first short freeway cruise to Cattlemens for dinner. Came home via Pacific and Taylor Road and were back at the VW Works by 8:30.
We also added some motor oil treatment to help quite the noisy cam gear and he purred right along...
Otto is officially a driver - YIPPEE!
