Fuel Pump Question Empty
PostSubject: Fuel Pump Question   Fuel Pump Question EmptySun Sep 18, 2011 8:29 pm

Can you plumb up an electric fuel pump but not connect the wires up?

Will it allow a mechanical fuel pump on the other end to pull fuel through it?

What about the other way around?

Can you connect an electric fuel pump and just disconnect the fuel lines on the mechanical?

Or do I just need to bite the bullet and find a block off plate???

I wanna say you have to use a block off plate and just use the electric pump. Dave might know more than I would but I'm thinking that's the case.

That is kind of what I was figuring.

I really didn't want to buy a block off plate for Dave's 1915 and I didn't really want to use my fancy new red anodized block off plate / coil mount yet.

But I will have to go one way or the other.

I guess it would be handy to have in the old "parts I may need so it would be handy to have pile."

I'm pretty sure that if you leave the stock fuel pump in place, it will likely burn out real quick with no fuel running through it. I've got an extra block off plate that you can have.

It depends on the pump. Only if it can override the checkvalve in the electric pump.

Yes, you should use a block off plate.

Why are you going to an electric fuel pump Matt? Is the mechanical not enough volume or pressure?

The mechanical is ugly...

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I was just curious. I didn't know if the new engine required something more than a mechanical could deliver.

Pretty much aesthetics, some performance considerations.

Mainly I wanted the fuel lines from out in front (or back depending on your perspective) of the engine and I wanted the coil to lie down on top of the block out of the way of the throttle and carb linkage.

CB makes a really slick combo block off plate coil mount AND it comes in red! (it's under my pillow waiting)

The electric fuel pump and regulator combo also gives me some options with my fuel flow that are a little more difficult with a mechanical.

All I want as a focus is a big ass shiny distro and fat plug wires on the left side of the motor.

Haven't made up my mind on a serpentine belt or stick with an old school pulley.

What is with the serpentine belts? I never saw them back in the day and all the show cars with their hoods up had them recently. Advantange?

Besides looking good for show, I think theoretically they maintain a more consistent tension on the belt.

As the temperature of the motor and belt changes, the belt tensioner keeps things under control.

But there is something about a billet pulley with a steel hub that is appealing to me.

Old Skool... Cool

Billet power pulley, all the way. Easy HP if you can stand the heat.

Pull the push rod out and fake the hoses to make it look right and when you get the block off plate you want just remove the old fuel pump
