Test And Tune on Saturday - April 7

Ray and I will be taking Hugo to Test And Tune at Sacto Raceway this weekend on Saturday if anyone would like to join us? We need to get the motor/jetting dialed in with the stinger, and I can use more practice time at the lights. Come and run anything, car/motorcycle/truck, for the fun of it; or just be a spectator. And we can go to Denny's afterwards.

We will see how Hugo does with a little tune up This time. I my have to turn some Knobs.

Test and Tune (TnT) at Sac Raceway is 10 bucks for spectators and 50 bucks for a car/driver using the track.

This picture really threw me off. I thought the event was this weekend but I hadn't seen this pic before so I thought maybe it was yesterday. I went back and re-read it and it is this weekend so now......

Good luck with the test-n-tune session! I'm one of those characters that likes going around corners rather than a straight line. Different strokes for different folks.

Does anybody know of a location where a temporary skid pad can be set up on smooth pavement to test suspension setups? A typical G-force circle is 50' in diameter with lots of run-out area for the inevitable spin outs. Thunderhill Raceway has a skid pad that is 200' by 550', but their location is a two hour tow from Auburn.

Mateo: I have an extra set of SCAT 4 into 1 exhaust headers (1 3/4" primaries) with a Dynomax muffler. If you are drag racing, you might want to locate a stinger.

Had a great day yesterday! Here's our little group. Yes, that is my pile of stuff in front of the SC from unloading my trunk.

Crappy cell phone vids, but nevertheless... First one I preloaded the clutch to spare my transaxles (you can see the car squat a bit), but it's not natural for me to launch from the handbrake. So my reaction time was only .54 and I chattered the tranny a bit, then 3rd gear ground and I misshifted. All learning curve, I figured it was nerves.



Second pass I wanted to try what worked for me best at NASA, to just launch from a standstill with my foot on the brake pedal, yet careful not to dump the clutch. I got a .009 reaction time, which made me VERY happy, car hooked up nice and powerful, didn't break free. But I lost 3rd gear, I had nothing. Went for 4th and rolled to the finish. Then tried to downshift into 3rd on the pit road figuring I had missed 3rd on the track, but it was gone. Then couldn't get 4th either, and by the time I got to my time slip, I had no 1st or 2nd, so I pushed the car to the pits. Got a tow home.





Ray thinks I overreved 2nd gear and blew the new clutch apart. I have no tach. But it doesn't sound that bad in the video... The other thing that I suspect is that my clutch tube in the tunnel came apart, it's been about to for a few years. We'll find out soon when Ray gets to it. This is partly why I am not sure I'll make it to Niello Ranch Run weekend now. Hoping though!

Then, ironically, on the way to Dennys for dinner with everyone afterwards, Tommy's SC lost the clutch cable too. Our cars seem to have some sort of empathic arrangement, because they both lost their 50 year old speedos at the exact same moment on the highway for the Rainbow Tavern cruise a few months ago.

So, Tommy threw Ray under the bus, so to speak. Cliff and Kyle helped and it was repaired at Denny's parking lot. AWESOME job guys.



All in all a great day! I learned what I wanted, making a clear decision on the best way for me to cut a good light, we got the jetting sorted out for the stinger. But still haven't gotten a decent idea of a 1/4 mile ET on this motor yet! Thinking low 14's... It felt GREAT before 3rd gear, a real kick in the pants.
