I was messing around in the garage today and thought this was kinda interesting. Check out these factory markings...

Greg's '63 Ragtop project - Page 8 63Bug197-vi

And then check these out. As best as I can tell, it says L LL followed by either NA or IVA and then Mavio ole Lump at the bottom. I've never seen anything like this. Anybody know what any of this means?

At any rate, I think it's pretty cool. I will probably mask this area off and keep it when it comes time to paint. I'll just leave this area alone.

I also got the front beam off. The pan is now loaded in the back of my pickup and I'll be taking it over to Jason tomorrow so he can weld up a loose clutch cable tube for me. After that, it goes straight to the sandblaster. Cool

And then look at what I found in the tunnel. How does that even happen? It's a 1985 cassette tape by The Outfield. I wonder how long it's been in there. Laughing

Ok, so can't you just imagine it's 1985. Just got the new Outfield tape. My bug being driven around and this song blasting away, ragtop folded back. Good times.

It's official. I will blast this song on the car's first drive!!

Those grease pencil marking are inspection markings from the factory. very nice.

Someone probably threw that tape in there wondering when, if ever, it would be found.

You should wipe it off and play it.

Kyle, you crack me up. I know how those markings got there and I've seen inspection markings before but all of the writing on the inside of the door seems excessive in comparison to what I've seen over the years. I was wondering if anybody had seen anything like this before and if anybody knew what it all meant.

My folks came into town this week so I took dad by Jason's shop yesterday. Jason's really close to having things wrapped up. In fact, he said I should have the car sometime next week.

I spent some time today getting my metal fuel line inside the tunnel unclogged. I wanted to work on this before it gets sandblasted or painted. Whatever it was that was in there, was IN there. I poked at it from both ends with wire, I used WD-40 and carb cleaner and poked some more. I used a 1/8" cable on a drill and I finally got through it. An hour and a half later, this black crud shot halfway across the garage! I kept running the cable through it and spraying carb cleaner through it until I had clean fluid coming out. I'm stoked because I didn't want to replace it. It actually looks to be in great shape! Score!

Yay! Oscar's home!! cheers

Jason sent me a text yesterday and told me that he would be ready to be picked up. I'm really happy to have him back in the garage.

I'm very grateful for the level of work Jason did and I feel fortunate to have someone with his kind of talent live in our back yard. I now have a rust-free car!!
